The History of Veterinary Ultrasound

The ultrasound is a technique of imaging that allows many applications in various fields of diagnostic medicine. However, the initial application of technical and industrial purposes was only in mid-1940's there was the introduction of ultrasound in diagnostic medicine. The first application in veterinary medicine took place in 1966 to detect pregnancy in sheep. Since then, improvements in the quality of equipament combined with a greater awareness of the benefits of ultrasound as imaging procedures led to the use of various fields of veterinary medicine. The ultrasound is applied to a range of very different situations, not only as a diagnostic tool in clinical practice veterinarians, but also in the early diagnosis of diseases, management of herds and clinical research.
