Abstract

Short analysis of the story O iluminado, published in the book O retrato de Rubens, in 1985, by the writer Amadeu Lopes Sabino, who recreates the historical figure of D. Sebastião in its famous battle of Alcacer Quibir as well as he creates a possible destination to the surviving king after the battle by assuming the legendary episode of its arrival to Arzila. Through a narrator who follows the historical sources to compose the episode of Alcacer Quibir but that also follows his imagination to create a possible destination for the disappeared king, O Iluminado presents a delimitation between factual and fictional space in the narrative by telling a story that amazes the reader.
