Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss the situation of Brazilian Theater in the first decade of the Modernism period (1922- 1932), known by the quick urban progress and also by the aesthetical innovations in several art productions. Considering the significant delay of the Brazilian theater in relation to the other arts, it is going to be presented the causes that avoided the rapid development of theater innovations, taking into account not only the theater structure, based on the 19th Century, but also the influences of the cinema and the foreign theater. Moreover, it is going to be discussed some punctual, but relevant attempts of modernization on the national stages, initiated on articles and also on some textual and structural innovations.
