This article examines the work of the influential and controversial Bolivian intellectual Álvaro García Linera. Linera played a key role in promoting and articulating debates on the so-called progressive cycle of Latin America during his terms as vice-president of Bolivia. So, his influence on Latin American left, and beyond, is huge. Therefore, I discuss different phases of his thought, as well his positions on social and political theme such as development, Vivir Bien, and Communitarian Socialism. The research considered both text and context, seeking to situate the author’s ideas within their historical and political framework. Two principal phases of García Linera's thought are identified and described in this study.
