Semi-automatic road extraction by means of cooperative methodology
Abstract
This paper presents a semi-automatic road tracing approach from medium and high resolution images. The method is a combination between two road tracings. One method is based on the anti-parallel edge concept of Nevatia and Babu. The other method takes into account a new correlation principle involving an ideal road and the real one. The extraction process is basically a feedback loop between approximate positions of the road axis computed by the correlation-based method and corresponding accurate positions computed by the edge-based method. Mathematical fundaments and obtained results are presented and discussed.
