Innovation in university libraries in Manaus: identifying the innovative potential

Introduction: University libraries, in public and private institutions in the city of Manaus-AM, as service providers, have the need to innovate in order to remain competitive. The research aims to analyze the perception of managers regarding growth and innovations in libraries, in addition to identifying the importance and practice in innovation processes in university libraries, as well as any barriers to innovation. Method: As for the objectives, this research is descriptive, with bibliographic and field research procedures and a hybrid approach, making use of the Learning to Grow methodology, having the university libraries of Higher Education, Public and Private, in the city of Manaus, as its objects of study. Results: The application of the Learning to Grow methodology was possible: to recognize opportunities for growth; develop and communicate growth strategies; carry out growth opportunities; and manage growth. In addition, to know the innovation processes, practices, barriers to innovation in university libraries, aiming at improving the innovative potential of these organizations. It was found that at the head of library management are women graduated in Librarianship. Regarding the innovation process in university libraries in Manaus, the results show that the concept of innovation is known by management, but there is difficulty in implementing innovation actions in practice, this may be related to the fact that the culture of innovation is still incipient in these information units. Conclusion: When measuring the degree of importance and the practice of innovation in libraries, it was concluded that the indices are unequal, exposing the need to create an organizational culture focused on innovation.
