Abstract

The relationships that can be established between football and politics have been studied both from social sciences as well as from journalism and film industry. This article aims to analyze the case of the copa de oro or mundialito held in Uruguay in 1980, during the dictatorial period, taking as input for analysis two recent documentaries about this event: “Mundialito” (Bednarik; 2010) and “Memorias do chumbo: O futebol em tempos do condor” (De Castro; 2012). Through the theoretical concepts offered by Norbert Elias and Pierre Bourdieu, the shaping of configurations and interdependencies as well as the constitutive and defining struggles among actors embedded in specific fields of action are analyzed in both inputs used.
